Skin MD Review and Contest!

A few weeks ago, I was sent a bottle of Skin MD Face, Hand & Body Sheilding Lotion.  The following is a portion of the email I received from Skin MD:

"It is a natural product that helps protect your skin and fight aging by locking in your skin's natural moisture. It helps heal dry skin caused by harsh weather conditions, leaving skin feeling soft and silky. It is also eco-friendly, dermatologist recommended, and hypo-allergenic.

A shielding lotion is unlike any other conventional, artificial moisturizers because it works with the skin to naturally moisturize and heal. Most conventional, artificial moisturizers only add moisture to the surface of the skin, but do little to repair the skin's natural barrier against moisture robbing irritants. Continued use of artificial moisturizers can cause the skin to actually begin producing less of its own natural oils, thinking that the skin has enough moisture. This can cause skin to form a dependence on the moisturizer for hydration. Skin MD Natural breaks the dry skin cycle by working to help restore skin's natural protective abilities by bonding to the outer layer of skin, strengthening skins natural barrier against toxins and irritants that can dry the skin, while locking in the skin's natural oils. Made in the US using high quality natural ingredients making it over 90% all natural. All ingredients are considered to be of food grade and are also on the FDA's most safe list. It is free of harmful fragrances, parabens, and colorants making it hypoallergenic. We don't participate in animal testing nor does the lotion contain any animal products."

I have really dry skin and was very excited to try this lotion.  I have tried nearly everything looking for "the one" that doesn't smell bad, isn't sticky or slimy, and gets rid of the dry, itchy skin.  I used this lotion for a few weeks and I have good news!  The good news is, it is NOT smelly, it is NOT sticky or slimy-it actually is really nice and absorbs very quickly.  The other great thing about Skim MD is that they make this lotion with an SPF 15!  I love a lotion with an SPF-every little bit helps.  Did it get rid of my dry skin, no, but it really alleviated the itchyness and helped with the dryness.  The best part for me was using it on my son.  He has the driest, sensitive skin and everything burns him.  I have to be really careful what I use on him.  I tried just a little spot and no burning!  I will be ordering more Sheilding Lotion from Skin MD.

Skin MD Natural is giving my readers a chance to win a bottle of Skin MD Shielding Lotion!  All you have to do is:
1.  Go to their website, take a look around
2.  Leave a comment on this post sharing something you learned about their products or skin
3.  Please leave 1 post with your name, email address and what you learned
4.  This is open to US and Canadian followers
5.  This contest is open now and closes Sunday, February 28, 2010 at midnight.  I will announce the winner Monday, March 1, 2010.

Good Luck and enjoy the Skin MD Natural website.

I learned that the normal humectant in lotions is glycerin, and that the humectant in Skin MD is able to moisturize at least 6 times more!

Hi,
I learned that glycerin is the standard by which humectants are measured. I didn't know there even was a standard! :)

Thanks for the contest!

I learned that what I've experienced with regular lotion makes absolute sense! The more I use, the more I need to use it since it's really just making my skin need more of the same, and that a "shielding lotion" like Skin MD can stop that cycle and allow my skin to heal itself! That's worth it to me, even if I don't win, I'm going to get some.

I learned about ingredients, and what each one does in the product. Methyl Gluceth-20 seemed particularly interesting to me. walkerjs7920(at)gmail(dot)com

I've heard a lot of good stuff about Skin MD. I'll have to try it soon since my hands generally stay really dry during the colder months.

I've seen this reviewed everywhere, it seems. Too bad it's not available locally, and shipping cost to my place is prohibitive.

I learned that a shielding lotion keeps moisture-robbing irritants away from the skin while the proprietary "super" humectants hydrate the skin throughout the day.

I read their bit on clinical trials and was surprised to learn that shea butter and cocoa butter "tend to decrease in their ability to work over time." I am even more intrigued to try their Shielding lotion!

I learned that their products penetrate many layers of skin, unlike regular drugstore brands that just sit on the top layer of skin.

Dry skin can be caused by a variety of factors: disease, harsh weather, outdoor activities and exposure to harmful chemicals and environmental toxins.
