Malibu Green and Konad

When I saw American Apparel's Malibu Green, I knew I had to Konad it!  It's been a long time since I did a Konad, so I hope you enjoy.
I used American Apparel Malibu Green as the base, Konad Plate m57, black Konad Polish, and Zoya Malia for the spots.

I really like this!  I have wanted to do this color combo Konad for a while.  Don't forget to get all of your Konad supplies at OC Nail Art!  Thanks for looking!

American Apparel

Happy June 1, 2010!  Can you believe the year is half over? Hope you all had a great weekend-mine was wonderful.  It finally reached 85 degrees!  We are usually well over 90 degrees by now.  We have had a very unusual spring and I am ready for the warm, sunny weather.  Anyways, I have some new polishes to share :)
American Apparel has come out with 5 new polishes and a base/top coat.  I have 4 of the polishes to show you guys, Butter, Summer Peach, L'Esprit, and Malibu Green.  I was very impressed with the AA polish that I tried in the past and I was really excited to try these new polishes.  I don't really like the Butter and Summer Peach.  They went on a little streaky, a little thick.  I am not a big fan of the pale cremes in the first place and I wish I had chose different colors.  On the other hand, L'Esprit and Malibu Green are wonderful!  They went on smooth and I just love these two colors.  You can find American Apparel polishes at their website or in their stores.  (oh gosh, my cuticles are awful!  Sorry!)

Butter is a pale yellow creme.

Summer Peach is a pale peach creme.

L'Esprit is a lilac creme, slightly on the grey side.

Malibu Green is my favorite of the 4.  It is a beautiful teal green creme.

New polish from American Apparel!

I have some great news this afternoon!  American Apparel has 6 new polishes!  Here is their press release and a picture!  These are available NOW, so go get a few or all of them at http://www.americanapparel.com/!

"American Apparel Expands its Nail Polish Collection with Six New Colors

LOS ANGELES -- American Apparel (Amex: APP), the vertically integrated clothing manufacturer based in downtown Los Angeles, is announcing the addition of six new colors to its successful line of nail polish. The company timed and designed the expansion of American Apparel Nail Lacquer for the upcoming summer season.

The colors continue the theme of representing the brand and the culture which surrounds it. A khaki shade called "California Trooper" alludes to the uniforms of the ubiquitous California Highway Patrol, while "Malibu Green" is inspired by the colors found near the company's store on the historic Pacific Coast Highway. Other colors like "Summer Peach" and "Butter" are now also an available option for some of the company's classic garments, including the Pique Tennis Shirt, 4-Way Stretch Side Zipper Pants and Dov's Hoody. The line will feature the release of a base/top coat, a much-requested addition that will bring an extra layer of protection and gloss to the nail lacquer.

"The first 18 colors of our nail polish line were an experiment˜we picked colors that were beautiful and didn't set out to necessarily match them with anything. For summer, we saw an opportunity not only to add a few new colors, but also to develop some fresh shades that can coordinate with the tones of our new styles. We're proud that by listening to the feedback of our employees, customers and the online community, we were able to create a summer range that incorporates their ideas and expresses the palette we presented this season," said Marsha Brady, a creative director for American Apparel.

American Apparel Nail Lacquer has been an exciting success for the company as it has expanded its aesthetic into new areas and styles. The initial run of 18 colors and 50,000 bottles quickly sold out worldwide and developed a loyal following of fashion bloggers and polish artists. By working with a California manufacturer near its headquarters in Los Angeles, American Apparel continues its commitment to the idea of Made in USA polish and hopes the new colors will be met with the same glowing reviews.
"The public has had an overwhelmingly positive reaction to our nail polish collection and we're excited about these new additions. As we translate our basics model to fashionable pieces and new kinds of products, we remain dedicated to maintaining the same level of quality and dependability that we're known for. The colors have the potential to enhance outfits in both classic and atypical ways and we're really look forward to seeing how people wear them," Brady said.

American Apparel Nail Lacquer is priced at $6 per bottle and is available in a 3-pack for $15. It is sold at American Apparel stores worldwide as well as online. The nail polish is DBP, toluene and formaldehyde-free. The full color range, ingredients and photographs can be found in the American Apparel web store.

American Apparel

Happy Friday!  Who has a 3 day weekend?  Any plans for Valentine's Day?  Last year jaded me towards Valentine's Day, so we'll see if my husband redeems himself this year, lol.  Anyways, on to the polish.  Today I have Office, Dynasty, and Downtown LA by American Apparel.  I am sure some of you read some things about American Apparel and the issues with their polish and if you want to read what I found out, you can do so here

Office is the mint green, in my opinion.  It's perfect.  Not too green, not too dark, just right.

Dynasty is a dusty light purple creme.

Downtown LA is a great true fire engine red.  I had to have it because of the name.  I had some crazy good times in downtown LA at Al's Bar, ever heard of it?

As of now, you can't buy American Apparel polish.  But, as soon as it becomes available, I will let everyone know!  Cheers everyone-have a great weekend!

American Apparel-Setting the Record Straight

There has been some rumors swirling around twitter and a few blogs regarding American Apparel's nail polish.  Here is an email I received this morning about the situation:

"The reason for the recall is that after receiving a few reports of bottles breaking, we made the internal decision to do a voluntary recall of the bottles on both a retail and public level. We chose this small US manufacturer to produce our nail polish because we support their business model and have a fondness for family who runs it. However, one of the realities of all manufacturing is first-run glitches. We worked all last week with the manufacturer to make the improvements necessary for the second run. Another reason we sought out a US-based company is so we would be able make changes and now, we can investigate what went wrong as quickly as possible. We still believe in the factory we're working with and the new polish will be in stores within the next two weeks. We will offer an exchange of two new bottles or a $10 giftcard for anyone who brings in a unit from the original run or a receipt. On another note, one thing we're taking very seriously is the disposal of the bottles we had in the stores. Even though our polish was DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde-free, we don't want our stores just tossing it in the trash. We're using our internal shipping and distribution line to arrange a pickup and removal of the polish to make sure it gets done right."

There you have it.  Basically the bottles suck and thank you American Apparel for being proactive about it.  There is nothing worse than getting a box with nail polish dripping out of it!

I stand behind this product.  I think they have great colors and a great formula.  Just give them a minute to regroup an fix the kinks.

American Apparel~Mouse & Hassid

American Apparel recently launched their new Nail Lacquer line of 18 shades that retail for $6 a bottle.  I was sent 2 polishes from their line for review.  They sent me Mouse and Hassid.  I am so happy they sent me Mouse.  I have been on the hunt for that perfect gray for my skin tone and guess what-it's Mouse!  Mouse is a gray creme with a tiny hint of pink to it.

Both pics are 2 coats, no top coat, inside with a flash(still no sun in 'sunny' California)

Hassid is a black creme.  This is 2 coats, no top coat.  I think 1 coat would have worked just fine.  **Bonus points-it works for Konad!!!  You'll have to take my work, I am out of acetone and did a quicky :)

All in all, I am thoroughly impressed with American Apparel Nail Lacquer.  I can't wait to order some!  You can find them here.

**Disclaimer** The kind people at American Apparel sent me these sample nail lacquers for review.
